ClinicalTrials.gov NCT 03573271; submitted for publication. 51 subjects completed the pivotal study; subjects were treated 2-3 times with 7%-8% skin removal and up to 5mm needle coring depth. Each patient heals differently; mild to moderate side effects may still be present up to 30 days post-treatment per physician assessment. What to Expect
Before and after your procedure…
Here's what to expect:
- Dr. Pierone will start by injecting local anesthesia into the treatment area or applying a strong topical numbing cream, to minimize discomfort.
- Once you’re numb, your provider will move a mechanical hand piece methodically across the treatment area, creating the micro-cores in a grid-like pattern (similar to a microneedling procedure).
- Each of the three hollow needles in the device is extremely thin—about .02 inches in diameter—and the needles move rapidly, to treat a 10mm x 10mm square area in less than 3 seconds.
- When a core is made, a vacuum system in the device provides suction that immediately removes the micro-cores of skin from the needles.
- Dr. Pierone can specify the percentage of skin removed, up to 8% of the total surface area of skin.
- Pinpoint bleeding is common immediately afterward, but it should stop once some pressure is applied with a damp, sterile cloth.
- The remaining skin also helps the micro-cores heal more quickly.
- Results should continue to improve over the coming months, as new collagen develops.
FAQs
How many procedures will you need?
As every patient has different needs, please speak with Dr. Pierone to determine the treatment plan that is right for you. In the clinical trial, most patients underwent a series of three procedures spaced approximately 30 days apart.
How long is a typical procedure?
The procedure itself takes about 30 minutes, but we recommend you set aside 90 minutes for pre and post procedure activities.
Is the procedure painful?
Dr. Pierone will provide you with appropriate anesthesia prior to the procedure to make you more comfortable. Most patients in our clinical trial reported pain during the procedure as less than 2 on a 0-10 scale.
Is the recovery time long?
Recovery time ranges from a few days to weeks, which can vary by patient and treatment settings. Since every patient heals at different rates, patient results and experience may vary. Please consult with Dr. Pierone for more information.
How is ellacor® different from other procedures?
Ellacor® removes micro-portions of excess skin to achieve an improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, whereas many other skin revitalization devices use heat generated by laser, radio frequency and ultrasound energy to induce intentional thermal injury to the skin.
Does ellacor® use laser, radio frequency, or ultrasound energy?
The ellacor® system is able to remove skin on the microscale without the use of thermal energy.
Can I receive ellacor® if I have a darker skin tone?
Because darker skin types (V and VI) may react differently to aesthetic treatments than lighter skin types (I-IV), a separate clinical study is needed to evaluate the proper protocols for using ellacor on darker skin types.
How is ellacor® different from microneedling or facelifts?
Microneedling uses small needles to injure the tissue, but skin is not removed during this procedure – the tissue is temporarily displaced. Typically, microneedling is recommended for fine lines and wrinkles.
A facelift is a surgical procedure with more dramatic results but can come with longer downtime.
Ellacor is different because it uses Micro-Coring technology with hollow needles to remove up to 12,000 tiny micro-cores of excess skin. The micro-cores are so miniscule, it doesn’t leave any scars. The process triggers collagen production and the skin’s natural healing process, which results in the improved appearance of wrinkles.
Many ellacor patients want better results than what microneedling can offer but don’t want or aren’t ready for a facelift. That’s where ellacor can be the right solution for them.
