Q:

I am 24, African American, but of a light complexion. I have very sunken under eyes with dark circles, & fine lines, I can’t even go makeless because of this issue and when I do wear makeup, every concealer sinks into my fine lines, & since I am light skinned, my dark circles give me the appearance of someone who has a black eye. I’m looking for a good filler that would be effective for getting rid of the sunken appearance & lightin my undereye area. What filler should I request?

Hello and thanks for posting.

Injection of the under eye region is technically challenging, so the most important decision is to find an experienced injector. The risk is that because the under eye skin is thin, irregular or excessive placement of filler will lead to lumps, bumps, or puffiness. A highly experienced injector should have the skill set to inject filler into the tear trough with a higher likelihood of an optimal result.

There are several different HA fillers that work well in this location. My favorite is a 50/50 blend of Vollure and 1% lidocaine. Another technique to increase the probability of an excellent result is to fill this area in a series of injections. Better to under fill this region, then repeat the injection in about 2 weeks to complete the correction.

I hope that this information helps and best of luck to you!
