Treatment Options This is a list of the products and prices that Dr. Pierone uses for facial rejuvenation and soft tissue augmentation. We suggest that prospective patients come in for a consultation and discussion of treatment options. For out of town patients Dr. Pierone will review facial photographs sent via email and discuss treatment options. Radiesse® Radiesse ® is an injectable suspension of microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite. It is used for the treatment of facial folds and wrinkles as well as facial augmentation. Radiesse® is chemically identical to bone matrix so it carries little risk of allergic reaction. Radiesse® is a versatile product and may be used in many areas of the face such as nasolabial folds (smile lines) and pre-jowel sulcus (marionette lines). Radiesse® is also used for facial augmentation in the cheekbones and jaw line. Radiesse® treatments produce immediate results, and typical side effects of treatment include swelling and bruising.This treatment is often performed in a two-step process in which the main facial correction is performed at the first visit and a touch up treatment is administered several weeks later to achieve optimal results. The improvement from Radiesse® lasts about a year but follow-up treatments appear to require less volume because of stimulation of collagen production. The charge for Radiesse is $600 per 1.5 syringe and $500 per syringe for multiple syringe treatments. Sculptra® Sculptra® was approved for use by the FDA in July of 2004 for the treatment of HIV-related facial fat loss and cosmetic use of Sculptra® was approved in 2009. Sculptra® is a synthetic polymer “poly-L-lactic acid.Sculptra® is a biodegradable material that has been safely used for decades in dissolvable sutures and orthopedic implants. Many consider Sculptra® to be a tissue volumizer and most patients require multiple treatments at 4 to 6 week intervals in order to achieve the best result. This product does not produce immediate results but the benefits from Sculptra tend to persist for over two years. Treatments usually take 30-60 minutes and the typical side effects are bruising and swelling. The charge for Sculptra is $700 for first vial, $600 per each additional vial treatments thereafter. Juvederm Ultra® Juvéderm Ultra ® is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel implant that is used for the correction of fine lines and wrinkles in the face as well as lip restoration and augmentation. Hyaluronic acid is a biocompatible product that been safely used for many years and may produce results that may last from 4 to 8 months. Juvéderm Ultra® helps to volumize and is used for the correction of fine lines and wrinkles in the face as well as thinning lips. Juvéderm provides a very natural look and feel. The charge for Juvéderm Ultra® is $600 for first vial, $500 per each additional vial treatments thereafter. Artefill® Artefill® is the only FDA approved permanent injectable filler. It is approved for correction of smile lines but may be used off-label in many areas. Artefill® contains 20% PMMA (poly methylmacrylic acid) microspheres combined with 80% purified bovine collagen and 3% lidocaine. The PMMA microspheres provide the permanent support for long-lasting wrinkle correction. Artefill injections are often performed in a two-step process in which the main facial correction is performed at the first visit and a touch up treatment is administered several weeks later in order to achieve optimal results. Skin testing to document the absence of bovine collagen allergy is required 28 days prior to treatment with Artefill®. The charge for Artefill® is $700 per 0.8 cc syringe and $600 per syringe thereafter. BOTOX® Cosmetic BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved by the FDA for treatment of the vertical lines between the eyebrows. BOTOX® Cosmetic may also be used in other areas of the face to improve wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic works by blocking nerve impulses in the muscles that produce wrinkles. It usually takes about 3-7 days after injection for the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic to become apparent and the benefit persists for about 3 months for most patients. The charge for BOTOX® Cosmetic is $10 per unit.
